Nick names given to our breed
Teacup- Did you know that the term Teacup Chihuahuas is frowned on by reputable breeders? This term is used by many disreputable breeders to charge absorbent prices for a puppy solely based on the fact that the puppy is small. Using the term Teacup makes the uninformed public believe they are getting something special or rare. Here at Lucky star Chihuahua we breed to the AKC standard which is a dog that is not to exceed 6 lbs. We do get tinies under 4 lbs, but do not refer to them as Tea cup Chihuahuas.
AKC does not recognize the term Teacup in any breed. Puppies that mature to be under 4 lbs are very delicate and are not suitable for a family with small children.
Apple Head- The AKC standard says that the Chihuahua should have a round “apple dome” skull with or with out a molera. However the AKC does not recognize the term “Apple Head Chihuahua”, nor is this a variety of the breed. All Chihuahuas whose head is correct to standard will have an apple dome skull. A Chihuahua is a Chihuahua; there are only two varieties in the Chihuahua, the smooth and long coat.
